HOW TO USE Ambien?
Read the Medication Guide and Patient Information Leaflet (if available) provided by your pharmacist before you start taking zolpidem and each time you take the medication. If you have questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Take this medication by mouth on an empty stomach, usually at night, as directed by your doctor. Because zolpidem works quickly, it should be taken at bedtime. Do not take with or after food as it does not act quickly. If you take a capsule of this medication, swallow it whole. Do not open, chew, or crush the capsules.
Do not take this medication unless you get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep at night. If you have to wake up before this time, you will experience some bad memories and you will not be able to do without taking safety precautions such as driving a car or operating the machine. (See “Warnings” section.)
Dosage depends on your gender, age, medical condition, other medications you are taking, and response to treatment. Do not increase your dose, take it more often, or use it for longer than prescribed. Do not take more than 10 mg per day. Women usually take lower doses because the drug is cleared from the body more slowly than men. Older people often take less medication to reduce side effects.
